Printers

  1. Sage Abra supports all HP 3 or higher compatible laser printers.

  2. When the printer driver provides the option to select fonts, try to deselect the "Print True Type as Graphics" option. If the font looks odd, make sure the proper True Type fonts are loaded: open the Printers option in the Windows Control Panel, select the printer, click File, click Properties, then select the Fonts tab. Generally, the most frequently used font is an Arial True Type font that you can load from the Windows installation disk (refer to your Windows documentation for loading printer drivers and fonts).

  3. To ensure the fonts are printing in the correct proportion, refer to your Windows documentation to enable or download True Type fonts. Also, set your printer to print at no more than 300 dots per inch.

Compatible Networks

  1. Novell Netware 6.5 or higher
(In order to support long file names, Novell users must install longnam.exe.
Visit http://support.novell.com/filefinder for information and product updates.)

  2. Microsoft Networks

  3. Microsoft Windows Terminal Server

Notes on Server and Workstation Configuration for Sage Abra HRMS

The above configuration recommendations should be used as guidelines. Actual memory and hard drive requirements may vary based upon number of simultaneously running applications, simultaneous network users and amount of data being processed. Using operating system utilities, you should periodically monitor and optimize Sage Abra workstation, server and network resource utilization.

  1. Memory:
The amount of available memory on the workstation directly affects Sage Abra performance. Memory is utilized by the operating system and by the actively running application programs and associated data. As memory is used, the processor must swap applications and data to and from the hard drive more often, and this slows down performance. The above memory recommendations assume Sage Abra is the only application running, and will yield good Sage Abra performance. If you run other programs simultaneously with Sage Abra (such as word processing, spreadsheet or Internet browser), or your Sage Abra database includes a large number of history records, you should consider increasing memory to 128MB or higher.

  2. Hard Drive:
Sage Abra requires a minimum of 500MB of free disk space for the entire suite. The actual disk space varies based on the products and options you are installing. Due to file expansion requirements, we recommend additional space be available for growth and backup. Each employee you enter into the system requires at least 500 KB of disk space per employee. Thus, a system running Abra Recruiting Solution, Abra HR, Abra Payroll and Abra Train with 100 employees requires at least 50 MB of free disk space for employee data.

Note: If you choose to store employee photos on the Demographics page of Abra HR or Abra Payroll, you will need additional disk space. The space required depends on the size of the photo files. You can decrease the size of photo files by limiting them to 256 or fewer colors.

Tip: To increase your disk space, we recommend you use the Windows Explorer to delete any files with the .TMP file extension located in the \TEMP directory of your Sage Abra system.

  3. Network:
Local Area Network (LAN) speed directly affects Sage Abra performance. Sage Abra is a file server architecture designed for LANs. This means that the database is stored on the server, but all processing is performed on the individual user workstations. Data is transmitted to the workstation, processed and then transmitted back to the server. Best performance will be achieved on 100Mbps LAN networks.

Please also refer to the Sage Abra Application Note "Turbo Payroll Processing" for specific configuration tips on maximizing processing speed for larger payrolls (500 employees or more) in a network environment.
